Novelist and literary theorist Cristina Rivera Garza, Tamaulipas, México, is a distinguished professor of Hispanic Studies and the director of the Creative Writing in Spanish Program at the University of Houston. In 2020, she received the MacArthur Fellowship. She is the author of eight novels, among them, No one will see me cry (2001) and La muerte me da (2009), both of which won the Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz for that year, as well as The Illiac Crest (2010) and, most recently, Autobiografía del algodón (2020).
