Commissioner Marleine Bastien, born and raised under the Duvalier dictatorship, reflects on her decades of fierce activism, social work, and the continued fight for immigrants’ rights.Through the Stories of Resistance from Black Miami project, HistoryMiami Museum is collaborating with 20 storytellers to document in-depth oral history interviews that explore the major social and racial justice efforts related to Miami’s diverse Black residents, from the Civil Rights movement to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Each story will be archived in the museum’s collection in its entirety and made available to the public. This project is ongoing, and published here are the edited videos produced so far. HistoryMiami Museum will update the playlist as we continue to produce video interviews.
Special thanks to the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives.
