A relaxing afternoon in Colorado exploring Twin Lakes & White Star Campground

We ended our 2020 Colorado hiking journey (9/3/2020) by visiting Twin Lakes, two glacial lakes located just 15 minutes south of Leadville. The lakes are known for being one of the best trout fishing spots in Colorado as they are stocked annually with Brown, Rainbow, and Cutthroat trout. Many anglers have caught trophy sized fish (40+ inches) with the average lake trout being 19 inches in length. It is also the location of the annual Leadville Ice Fishing Derby. Not only is Twin Lakes a great spot for outdoor activities but they also serve the importance of storing water and assisting with generating electricity for the hydroelectric Mt. Elbert Power Plant.

We stayed right next to the lakes at the White Star Campground and enjoyed every minute of it. We would definitely stay again if we came to the area. There are so many things to do in the area that bring many visitors back every year, whether that be hiking the tallest mountains in Colorado, fishing the lakes, boating, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, horseback riding, biking, camping and so much more. We highly recommend this campground to anybody looking to visit.
