Christmas Song in Gothic: O Come All Ye Faithful | The Skaldic Bard

Time for a change of pace for the Christmas season! This is my translation of the carol Adeste Fideles, typically rendered in English as O Come All Ye Faithful, into the Gothic language. Arrangement and translation by The Skaldic Bard, and performance by The Skaldic Bard and my wholesome wīf.

I have translated the carol from the Latin original. You’ll see the Latin original at the top of the screen, followed by Gothic in Gothic script in the middle, under which is the romanised Gothic transliteration, and finally the English translation of my Gothic rendering.

We're singing in a later, post-Wulfilian Gothic pronunciation, whereby the diphthongs 'ai' /aɪ/ and 'au' /aʊ̯/ had merged with /ɛ/ and /ɔ/ respectively.

The background art is Ernst Ferdinand Oehme’s ‘Bergkapelle im Winter’ (1842).
