Hungary had existed as an independent state for hundreds of years, and, even after they had come under Austrian Habsburg rule, they were still technically independent. But, in 1803, after Napoleon started causing trouble in Europe, the Holy Roman Emperor, Franz II, was worried that he might lose the imperial title. So, the Austrian Empire was born, holding all Habsburg lands, including Hungary. But, the liberal Hungarians weren't all that happy about this, so, in 1848, they revolted against Austria, but ultimately failed, returning to Austrian rule. But, what if, in an alternate timeline, Hungary had gained its independence? Enjoy!
