Today I woke up to a new lake in our backyard! Fortunately we live just above the flood level on the river's bank, however many houses were not so lucky. In my quest to shoot a drone video a day for the year, I've released this day's drone footage ahead of schedule. It's amazing how much the Maribyrnong river has flooded after a day's heavy rain upstream.
Whilst the river floods around every 10-15 years, it is still something to behold the force that nature can bring in a short period of time. The Maribyrnong's a key river traveling through in the North-Western suburbs and country areas of Melbourne, with each suburb feeding storm water into the river. It burst it banks earlier in the day and spilled across the flood plains and low lying suburbs. Hope the people's houses that got flooded can rebound back from this.
