【関之尾滝（せきのおのたき）】
　都城市の関之尾滝は20m近い落差を持つ迫力のある滝で、滝の前にかかるつり橋を歩くととても細かい水しぶきを浴びることができます。天気が良い日には、日光が差し込んで虹がかかります。
　この滝をつくっている岩石は、加久藤カルデラ（えびの市の加久藤盆地）の約34万年前の巨大噴火の噴出物が分厚くたまって固まったもので、滝の下にはそこからはがれた岩のかけらが積み重なっています。この滝のすぐ上流には、その硬い河床のくぼみに入り込んだ石が水流で激しく回転することによって河床をけずりこんでできたポットホールと呼ばれる大小の穴が見られ（国指定天然記念物）、そちらもたいへん美しい景観をつくっています。
　江戸時代から明治にかけて、この滝の落差を利用して下流に用水路が段階的に引かれ、水の確保に苦労していた人々の米作りを大いに助けました。関之尾滝は、自然の造形美だけでなく、水と人の暮らしのつながりも知ることができるサイトです。

【Sekinoo Falls】
Sekinoo Falls in Miyakonojo City is a powerful waterfall with a head ~20 m, and you can take a very fine spray of water when you walk on the suspension bridge in front of the waterfall. When sunlight shines in, a rainbow may appear on it. The rocks comprising this waterfall are the eruption products of the catastrophic eruption in the Kakuto Caldera (Kakuto Basin in Ebino City) ~340,000 years ago. Upstream of this waterfall, there are large and small holes called potholes that were created by the stones that entered the hollows of the hard riverbed and violently rotated by the water current. This beautiful landscape is designated as a natural monument of Japan.
From 1685 to 1901, irrigation canals were gradually drawn downstream using this waterfall, which greatly helped people who had difficulty securing water to grow rice. This waterfalls is a site where you can not only learn about the beauty of nature, but also the relationship between water and people's lives.
