The Bioptic Glasses Experience & Midwest Low Vision. Are you referring patients for low vision care?

The greatest problem today in low vision care is that the MAJORITY of patients who could benefit from a low vision doctor's services do not know that low vision services even exist.

Midwest Low Vision is located inside Long Family Eye Care at 660 South College Avenue in Bloomington, Indiana. While we use satellite locations throughout south-central Indiana, this has been our home since 2002. Dr. Long has practiced low vision as a specialty since 1997.

Come along with Dr. Long on an office tour! It starts in the preliminary testing room, goes to the low vision examination lane, and finishes in the low vision device/glasses measurement and demonstration area.

After the quick tour, we hear from a patient who has had her bioptics for about a week and is having reading telescopic glasses dispensed. She shares her wonder at the things she can now see!

Our low vision patients typically have dry macular degeneration, wet macular degeneration, Stargardt macular dystrophy (Stargardt's), diabetic retinopathy, traumatic brain injury, albinism (including ocular albinism), glaucoma, optic neuropathy, brain stroke, and many other vision-limiting conditions.

Not all of our patients are legally blind. Many are partially-sighted, have lost their peripheral vision (tunnel vision, hemianopsia, hemianopia), or even have near normal vision. In the latter case, they may simply need strong reading glasses, strong bifocals, or prismatic reading glasses...special glasses just beyond what most eye doctors would normally prescribe.
