Labour has softened its plan to tax inherited farmland by raising the threshold from £1m to £2.5m from April 2026, after months of farmer protests and Labour concern. Ministers still plan a 20% tax above the threshold, with Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds saying the change will protect more family farms while larger estates pay more. The NFU welcomed the shift, while the CLA said it reduces, but doesn’t remove the risk for some family businesses.
