Part two of my series converting a barn-style shed into a comfortable workshop / office. While this building is very small, it will provide me with the privacy, and quiet environment required for maximum productivity.
This video primarily covers insulation, and energy efficiency. The shed was originally framed with 2x3s, which would not allow for insulation thick enough for our climate. After furring the walls out with additional lumber, the new 5” deep wall cavity allows for a much higher R-value of insulation. Other details include filling the doors with EPS insulation, and paying close attention to air-tightness.
Overall, I expect this building will be very energy efficient. So much so, that during certain parts of the year, and at certain times of the day, a significant portion of the heating load may be met by passive solar heating, from sun entering the south facing window.
