Much Murkle – Farnham & District Model Railway Club's Annual Exhibition 2025

Much Murkle by Nick Wood – A OO gauge Layout at the Farnham & District Model Railway Club's 50th Annual Exhibition 11 October 2025

Much Murkle (OO, Nick Wood) is set in a fictitious 1930s community in Herefordshire served by a single line branch. The branch is just 8 miles long and with one intermediate station at the village of Kempstone and a small halt at Sollers Hall. There is a rail served quarry about a mile outside Much Murkle, all trains departing the quarry have to be reversed at the terminus as the quarry has no run round loop.

There is a rail served quarry located approximately 1 mile outside of Much Murkle. The quarry is the main economic reason for the line's existence. All trains departing the quarry have to be reversed at the terminus due to the quarry having no run round facility, which makes for more interesting stock movements.

There is also a short branch leaving Much Murkle serving the local cider industry. Rancoutt's Cider is in demand throughout the South and Midlands and 'foreign' vans can be regularly seen picking up supplies.

Like most model railways, Much Murkle is not finished and continues to be developed. Improvements are always being made, more detail added and items replaced as skills develop.
