Ginkaku-ji, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in Kyoto’s Higashiyama area and can be reached in forty minutes by bus from Kyoto Station. The temple was founded in the 15th century by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, the eighth shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, and is known for its serene architecture that exemplifies Higashiyama culture.
In autumn, the maple trees throughout the precincts turn vibrant colors, marking the most visually striking season of the year.
Enjoy the autumn leaves of Ginkaku-ji, a radiant scene in Kyoto’s brilliant late-autumn landscape.

Notes:
This was my first time filming at Ginkaku-ji in November. Because the sun rises later in autumn, the temple grounds remained in the shadow of the Higashiyama mountains at the 8:30 a.m. opening time, with little direct sunlight. If you wish to capture the maple leaves glowing in the morning light, visiting after 10:00 a.m. is advisable. However, while the temple is relatively quiet at opening, it becomes crowded around 10:00, making the timing difficult to balance. In the video presented here, only the final shot was filmed after 10:00 a.m.
