The Martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS)
According to historical accounts, Imam Hassan (AS) was martyred by poisoning. The poison was administered by his own wife, Ja'da bint Al-Ash'as, who carried out the act on the orders of Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan.

Muawiyah's motive was to violate the peace treaty he had signed with Imam Hassan (A.S.). A key condition of this treaty was that no one would be appointed as a successor after Muawiyah's death, and the right to the Caliphate would return to the family of the Prophet. Muawiyah, however, was determined to establish his son, Yazid, as the next Caliph, and Imam Hassan (AS) was the greatest obstacle to this plan.
To achieve his goal, Muawiyah bribed Ja'da with a large sum of money and promised to marry her to his son, Yazid, if she poisoned Imam Hassan (AS). After she committed the crime, Imam Hassan (AS) became gravely ill and passed away. Muawiyah ultimately did not fulfill his promise to Ja'da and did not allow her to marry Yazid.

The martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS) marked a profound shift in Islamic history. It cleared the way for the establishment of a dynastic rule under the Umayyads and set the stage for the tragic events that would follow, most notably the Battle of Karbala.
