Jur Deitmers is a student with a big passion and motivation for brain and memory. Especially because of the brain infection and complete memory loss, Jur is wondering where certain patterns in society are coming from and where we learn that. Questioning who he is, Jur Deitmers discovered in his philosophy thesis ‘Beyond Memory’ that identity and memory are different things.
This talk takes you on a journey starting from scratch as a newborn in a body of a 21 years old to trying to graduate against all odds As an Economics and Philosophy student at Erasmus University Rotterdam (NL), Jur Deitmers joined the Visiting Undergraduate Student program at Harvard University (US) in 2016. In March 2017 Jur Deitmers got hit in Boston by a severe brain inflammation which subsequently revealed itself during spring break in Mexico.
Due to this encephalitis his complete memory of 21 years vanished and never returned. Jur Deitmers fortunately managed to recover well with a lot of guidance and attention from the people around him.
