STIHL in a Hemlock

Did Seattle Tree Care steal a tree? Of course not! Read the title again.

So you want to be an Arborist? Seattle Tree Care uses a variety of equipment in the day to day operations. Becoming an Arborist means learning how to use everything from a rake to a chainsaw and possibly even a crane. The chainsaw is a staple of every Arborist. At Seattle Tree care they primarily use STIHL. So when Peter ascends this Hemlock with rigging and chainsaw in tow, there is a STIHL in a Hemlock. Chainsaws aren't the only tools you'll need to master in the field. As a climber you'll need to know pulleys and knots. On the ground you'll use polesaws, handsaws, hedgers and more. If you're inclined towards heavy machinery, Arborists utilize chippers, stump grinders, the ditch witch and bucket lifts, just to name a few. There are plenty of opportunities and different areas to become an expert in.

In this episode, watch Russell deftly manipulate the Grapple as he helps bring down Washington's state tree with the added complication of a rarity growing at it's base. The California Lady Slipper is a rare orchid and all that stands between them and a 4000 lbs log is Russell and an orange road cone. Speaking of road cones, Keaton explains one of the less glamorous but necessary aspects of tree work, traffic duty. While not exactly flagging it requires just as much attention as Adam must pay to power lines when he goes up in the bucket to treat another birch infested with the bronze birch borer beetle. That's a lot of B's. Thankfully not the other kind of bees. You'll get to see some of the sights of Seattle from a birdseye view as we bounce between crews in an attempt to keep you educated and entertained simultaneously.
