Wood firing workshop firing in a train kiln at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA.
Ceramic wares and pottery were bisque fired previously. These pieces were wadded, glazed, and loaded into the kiln. The kiln fires for about 36 hours.
We continually stoke the flames and insert pine wood, oak wood, and some other woods until we reach 2,345 degrees Farhrenheit. This is about cone 10. Then pieces are unloaded a week later.
The ash and atmospheric effects are what gives wood fired ceramics their unique surface.
