Life on our off-grid homestead in Norway – August days
By mid-August the days are already shorter here in the forest, and the grass has slowed down. I move the sheep to fresh pasture every day, while the harvest season keeps me busy with root vegetables and our very first oats. In the forest I gather lingonberries and mushrooms, and in the evenings I sort potatoes so the best ones can be saved as seed potatoes for next year.
The vet visits to vaccinate the flock, the last hay is brought in, and the sheep enjoy grazing the stubble field. As the grazing resources get tight, I set up movable fencing behind the henhouse – even the pigs get their share of brush and grass to enjoy. The ducklings have grown into fluffy teenagers, happily foraging around their pen.
Then comes an early surprise: frost already on the 23rd of August! No wonder the grass stopped growing so soon. Luckily the vegetables seem unharmed, as the frost only touched the yard. The new fencing is finished, giving the sheep access to browse in the woodland, while harvest work continues.
It’s another quiet everyday video from our homestead – with animals, nature, and the rhythm of the seasons at the center.
