EDIT October 27 2025: Removed some of the negativity and misinformation in the description. I regret not being more respectful towards this game as I never expected a developer to leave very nice comments on my video. I am deeply ashamed and I'm truly sorry. I also looked at the Amazon reviews at this game and there is indeed no evidence of this game being review-bombed for requiring such a device to be able to function.
Sup guys welcome back once again to Not My Regular Content(tm)
Today was my birthday and I wanted to bring you guys something totally different! (Also, Face Reveal Day for me apparently lolol.)
Story time.
The I SPY CD-ROM games from Scholastic were a huge part of my early childhood. I would go to the library and borrow them all the time as a little kid. I eventually purchased I SPY Mystery one day when I was like 5 or 6 (weird choice I know) and to me it was so much fun.
Now as an adult I've experienced all the games, including this one (I SPY Pirate Ship) as of today! Which has eluded me and so many others due to requiring a special camera (Intel RealSense F200 to be exact).
I managed to find a copy of the game on Internet Archive, and soon after that I found a listing for the exact type of RealSense camera I would have needed at the time on eBay and had my mom get me it for my birthday!
Well, what are my thoughts on this game?
I was under the impression would have fully utilized the camera and there would be little input from the mouse at all. Well, I turned out to be wrong! Other than a fair amount of short sequences and minigames where you need to use the camera, this game functions fine with a mouse.
As for the environments, well, the thing is, in I SPY games there usually are tons of cute animations and unique sounds when clicking on found objects. Those usually make you want to click them a few more times just for the heck of it. This game on the other hand, only has like, sparkles, no animations aside from the minigames, and only a small handful of bell sounds that cycle through when you find an object. i found that a little disappointing, but not bad.
I will give credit where it's due though. I do like that this game attempts to teach the player Morse code. I also like the idea that in the Bilge, you have to pump the water first BEFORE finding other objects, or else they're underwater and you can't see them. And finally I really love that the environments are very detailed, perhaps moreso than any of the other games.
Also special thanks to my awesome mom who helped me get past the first Rose interaction at the Prow. I'm TERRIBLE at smiling :') (I was able to do the other interactions myself tho lol)
