In today's video, I'm diving into the 8 things I do for my microgreens operation that ensures I don't spend time picking sunflower seed hulls out of my finished product. Here are the the main 8, some others I've heard work, as well as one more critical thing I forgot to mention:
1. source good seed (my fav is usually black oil from trueleaf)
2. find a good growing medium
3. soak seeds
4. stack trays
5. rake hand over tray right before harvest
6. vigorous washing
7. floating hull removal
8. fluffing on the drying rack
And one more I forgot to mention is TIMING. You have to make sure you know how long they take to get to perfect harvest stage in your grow rooms conditions. This can be anywhere from 8-12 days depending on your setup and environment. If you start them too late, you might be in a jam where picking off hulls is your only choice, and that's NOT GOOD!
Here are a few other things you might try:
heat pads and watering with warm water
covering with humidity dome 24hrs before harvest
covering with 1/2 inch soil.
Let me know if you have any more questions about sunflower microgreens!
