Jenrick: I told Kemi to kick out Truss over mini-budget disaster

Robert Jenrick has told Sky News Kemi Badenoch's refusal to kick Liz Truss out of the party was one of the reasons he left the party.

Jenrick, who defected to the Conservatives last week, said he "repeatedly" told Badenoch to axe the former prime minister over her "cack-handed" mini-budget disaster.

Jenrick tells Sky News: "If I'd been leader of the Conservative Party, and that's obviously ancient history now, I would have chucked Liz Truss out of the party because the mini budget was careless. It was cack handed, " he said.

"If the party has really changed, why wouldn't you kick Liz Truss out? You know, I've told Kemi to do that. She chose not to do it. And it speaks to a broader truth."
