After being released from jail on a technicality, Freddy Krueger finds himself alone in his secret lair, the boiler room of an abandoned warehouse. But the parents of Springwood are not happy with Krueger's release and set out to take vengeance upon the alleged Springwood Slasher with a trial by fire!!!!

A WORD FROM CHRIS

This video was principally made due to the overwhelmingly positive response both Roberto Lombardi and I received from this series. We were quite content with leaving things open ended with the last installment "The Slasher from Elm Street", but people kept demanding to see more- specifically Freddy's trial by fire. This of course intrigued me as I too wanted to see that play out more than anything, but for the longest time, I was hesitant to make part 5 because I was unsure as to whether or not I could pull off the special fx.

Well finally in December of 2015, I decided to throw caution to the wind and we made our official announcement on the Krueger FB page. And from that day, till literally the day I put the makeup on Roberto, I was still unsure if I was going to be able to pull it off. We were literally only working with store bought materials. Unlike "The Nightmare Ends on Halloween II" or "The Deadpool Webseries" where I was able to merge a custom mask with Roberto's face, this time around, it was simply going to just be a bald cap, some cotton swabs and liquid latex.

The process took about an hour and a half. And unlike some of the previous Nightmare sequels, I wanted to keep the makeup as simple as possible, so Roberto could move and act in it. So with just a few layers of latex and the cotton off several Q tips, I was able to build a simple foundation that resembled Freddy's burnt flesh. Then I just threw on a ton of makeup to shade in the appropriate areas.

We were both stunned by Roberto's uncanny resemblance to Mr. Englund once the process was complete. We were geeking out like little kids. Unfortunately, we were unable to darken Roberto's teeth before filming, since the tooth decay liquid had just dried up, rendering it unusable. I would say that was the only setback, but I don't think it took away from the film.

For the costume, I was very conscious about making sure my Freddy actually looked like he was burnt so apart from spraying the sweater down with fabric dye, I actually set it on fire in certain areas to create the proper fringing effect I wanted on the edges of the sleeves and collar.

Production began in Philadelphia at the same abandoned warehouse I filmed TURNED in summer of 2015 and yes, we actually get to work with fire. The fire of course was later enhanced with special fx during the editing process, but it was truly awesome to have Roberto in a boiler room surrounded by actual fire. (side note- fire extinguishers make for excellent smoke and fog effects.)
