The (not so) Hidden Village of Galboly

In this weeks video we explore the hidden village of Galboly.

Tucked away in the Antrim coast hills at Garron point, this abandoned village is steeped in history and offers incredible walks above onto the Garron Plateu.

The village of Galboly, meaning “the English dairy place” was once a thriving rural village where people lived off the land and sea.

The village was also known as the “robber’s village,” as it was rumored that residents were known to rob unsuspecting tourists traveling in jaunting carts up and down the Antrim Coast Road during the 1800s.

The last person to live in the village was a monk from the Abbey at Portglenone. He resided in the village until his death in 2013.

Galboly is now a popular film location (making it significantly less hidden) and was used in Game of Thrones seasons 5 and 6 as Runestone in the Vale of Arryn. Check out the episode “Wars to Come"
