The Fantastic Four: First Steps – Movie Review

Marvel’s been on a slow decline, but Fantastic 4: First Steps might have actually reversed the spiral—at least for two hours. Set in a ‘60s retro world, directed by a guy who went from It’s Always Sunny to Game of Thrones, it somehow balances goofy costumes, Kubrick vibes, and a CGI baby that occasionally looks like it escaped from The Sims 2. Pedro Pascal is anxious, Joseph Quinn steals the show, and Ralph Ineson is somehow both terrifying and still the bloke from The Office. It’s the first time in years I’ve felt something during a Marvel movie that wasn’t fatigue.
