Our most recent episode of Mil's Trills Guide to Songwriting offers an accessible songwriting activity using simple items - like recyclable paper - that are easily found at home! Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below.
Note to TEACHERS / PARENTS - If you're not musical, don't worry too much about matching the notes to your letters. I'd rather you focus on having fun ripping paper than trying to "perfect" the melody. If the notes are too challenging, try replacing the letters with words and sculpting your song that way! Hopefully, your main takeaway from this video is that anything around you can inspire art. Does this exercise inspire you to see regular household items in a new way?
If you need a VIRTUAL KEYBOARD to help with matching notes, I'd recommend: apronus.com/music/flashpiano.htm
Amelia of Mil's Trills teaches kids how to write songs based on Amelia's own "Messy Music" method - a play-centered approach that helps children feel accepted, encouraged, and valued through the process of making music.
