Welcome to another flavorful episode straight from my Sri Lankan village kitchen! In today’s video, we explore the bold, tangy, and aromatic world of Goraka (also known as Garcinia Cambogia)—a tropical fruit with deep culinary roots and medicinal value in Sri Lankan cooking. From sun-drying goraka harvested from my home garden, to crafting a rich goraka chutney with ginger, garlic, shallots, and warm spices, every step reflects the traditional food preservation and authentic village cooking techniques passed down through generations.
➡️ We begin with the homemade preparation of sun-dried goraka pulp, gently hand-crushed and transformed into a jam-like base. Some of this mixture is then turned into a refreshing guava and goraka drink, perfect for beating the midday heat. I also show how we use marinated goraka fish fillets for a comforting cassava curry, combining earthy roots and tangy fermented flavor. Nothing is wasted in our zero-waste kitchen—every piece of fish, every fruit, every grain is part of a soulful meal.
Later, I prepare a spicy meat curry with dried goraka, served alongside coconut sambol, rice, and a garden-fresh guava salad. These meals are more than food—they’re moments of care, tradition, and shared joy.
