LingQ Where to Start and How to Progress

Today, we will talk about how to learn a foreign language from scratch by using Lingq. In my opinion, the best language learning app out there.

In a nutshell, Lingq is an app that helps you to learn to read and to understand a foreign language, through reading and listening. It’s based on the comprehension hypothesis by Stephen Krashen, which says that through the consumption of language in spoken and written form, we assimilate it. The content needs to be comprehensive so at the right level for us and compelling, which means interesting. Further, it makes your progress visible, which also motivates a lot.

We will first have a look at the case that the language we want to learn has a different alphabet. Then I will walk you through LingQ and show you which content you should start with. We will then lay out a plan to progress through the different levels, starting from A1 up to B2 and above. Last but not least, we will talk about Habits & Routines, which are crucial if you want to succeed in language learning.
