The Karabiner 98k was the standard rifle of the German Army, issued to millions of men in a war that officially revolved around machine guns. For the soldiers who carried it, the K98k was not a symbol on a poster, but a five-shot bolt-action tool that had to work in mud, snow, and rubble from Poland to the Eastern Front.
