Shifting and Switching To Throw the Right Hook | Volume 1. Tom Yankello of the World Class Boxing Channel begins a new series on shifts and switches. In Volume 1, Tom teaches when you weave under a right hand, weave under a right hook, or weave under an overhand right, you can use a shift and a switch to really get a great angle to throw a right hook. Traditionally when you weave under the right hand, you weave, and throw the left hook. Instead he is going to use a shift and a switch. When he weaves under the right hook, then shifts his feet over to his left and up so that your right foot is in front of the left. Now he is in position to hit you with a right hook. When he switch and shifted, it put him in the southpaw position. There is a great benefit in doing this and that is he is getting out of the way from being countered with the left hook. The shift and switch takes you completely out of the way from being countered. The great Willie Pep was awesome at doing shifts and switches. Tom then shows you how you should hold the mitts to train a fighter to do this drill. He then throws a bonus in where he shows you another punch to add to the move. When he weaves under the right hook, he can double up by hitting the opponent with the right hand to the body, shift and switch then throw the right hook. While the beginning of this video shows how the orthodox fighter performs this technique, Tom then shows how it would be performed as a southpaw.
