TITLE: Ein höfisches Duett in Es-Dur
[A Courtly Duet in Eb major]
SUBTITLE: für Trompete mit Knöpfen in D und Bratsche
[for trumpet with buttons in D and viola]
COMPOSER: A.J.S. Bach
PROGRAM NOTES: N/A
Our Findings:
This courtly duet has it's name untranslated because it has a name that is not the descriptor of the piece itself (Like Piano Sonata in A Major).
This duet for Trumpet and Viola was written in 1738, at a time when A.J.S. Bach wrote almost exclusively for Trumpet and Viola. It is one of his better works.
The strange thing about this piece is that while the beginning is in Eb major, the piece shifts to Bb major half way through, followed by casually modulating to G minor, D major, and Eb major before ending on a G minor chord.
It's a cute, short work he wrote. Probably between other major pieces (like his Children Mass (still not discovered) he had written in the same year).
