WELCOME! In this video I'll be talking about three reasons for buying tools second hand:
1) Because the quality of second hand tools made prior to 1960 is comparable to the best tools available today and they work pretty much as well.
2) Because buying second hand detaches us from a culture where new and shiny has value just because of the newness and the shininess of the tool. This is very destructive to the environment.
3) Because old tools that have been used by other woodworkers have a life of there own that makes 'owning' them almost a privilege.
These tutorials and my courses is underpinned with the idea that beautiful, precise, 'sustainable woodworking' using only hand tools is perfectly possible for anybody to do no matter how limited their space, their experience or resources they have available to them. Carpentry is a creative, contemplative and rewarding pastime and I hope this tutorial proves that it is something everybody can enjoy.
