Somasila Sri Lalitha Someswara Swamy Temple

Somasila is a pilgrimage and tourist destination because of the 15 temples and Krishna River backwaters. Someshwar Swamy Temple (a replica of ancient temple reconstructed as the original place was submerged in reservoir area) a highly revered shrine in Somasila.

It is on the bank of Somasila reservoir and attracts pilgrims round the year.

Backwaters backed up by Srisailam dam has a unique ecosystem with many species of aquatic life, water birds and animals.

With beautiful surroundings and back waters Somasila is an ideal tourist spot to visit. Somasila is at a distance of 172 kms from Hyderabad.

Situated on river Krishna, this destination is a great Pushkar Snanam destination, and during Krishna Pushkarams high tourist inflow occurs.

It is known for the Sri Lalitha Someswara Swamy Temple.[2] It is believed to have been built during the 7th century. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity here. Mahashivaratri and Karthika Pournami are celebrated here with much religious fervor. A major draw is the festival, which is celebrated here once in 12 years. Pushkara Snanam - a dip in the Krishna River is considered auspicious on this occasion.[3] There are 15 temples, all housing Shivalingas. The temple was shifted from old Somasila village to higher land to protect it from being submerged in Krishna waters. Many visitors use the location for picnics.
