Stockton Firefighters responded to a 5 alarm 'all hands' structure fire this morning at a processing facility on Waterloo. Firefighters faced a stubborn fire that was deep seated in plastic crates in a pallet yard. Plastics burn up to three times hotter than wood, and are also more readily available to reignite because they do not absorb any water. This created an extremely hot fire on an extremely hot day- with temperatures reaching over triple digits. The fire grew despite several aggressive attacks. It grew regardless, and eventually drove firefighters out of the yard due to extreme radiant heat. One firefighter required medical attention due to heat exhaustion. The fire was brought under control in 5 and half hours, with firefighters remaining on scene throughout the day and into the night. We are proud to serve the citizens and City of Stockton, California.
