Only an evil person would ask the deportation of innocent Cameroonians

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was granted to eligible Cameroonians in the U.S. due to unsafe conditions in their home country, but this designation was officially terminated as of August 4, 2025. The status provided temporary protection from deportation and eligibility for work permits while it was active.
Termination of TPS for Cameroon
The TPS designation for Cameroon was terminated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2025.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem determined that conditions in Cameroon no longer met the legal requirements for protected status.
This termination ended the protection from deportation for approximately 7,900 Cameroonians who held TPS.
Background and benefits of the original designation
The U.S. first designated Cameroon for TPS on April 14, 2022, for 18 months due to "extreme violence" and a humanitarian crisis. The designation was later extended and redesignated by a previous administration
While active, the status provided benefits such as temporary protection from deportation and the eligibility to apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
It also provided access to travel documents for beneficiaries who wished to travel abroad temporarily.
A key feature of TPS is that it is temporary and does not provide a path to permanent residency or citizenship.
Implications of the termination
Since the termination, former TPS holders from Cameroon have reverted to their previous immigration status.
Those who lacked legal status before receiving TPS are now considered to be in the U.S. unlawfully.
Legal challenges have been filed by advocacy groups, but as of July 2025, a federal appeals panel has allowed the termination to proceed.
