J. B. Rhine's Early Years in Parapsychology with Barbara Ensrud

Barbara Ensrud served as president of the board of directors of the Rhine Research Center from 2016 to 2000. She is coeditor, with Sally Rhine Feather of J. B. Rhine, Letters 1923-1939: ESP and the Foundations of Parapsychology.

During the 1930s, the Parapsychology research program at Duke University established experimental protocols that were successful in demonstrating the existence of extrasensory perception, precognition, and psychokinesis. The public reaction was enormous and largely positive, while the academic community – psychology in particular – was mostly hostile. At the end of the decade, Rhine published the classic book, Extrasensory Perception After Sixty Years, in which he addressed in detail every scientific criticism that had been raised.

Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of a doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" awarded by the University of California, Berkeley, 1980. He is also the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Bigelow Institute essay competition on the best evidence for postmortem human survival.
