In this video, I walk you through a weighted manual handling formal risk assessment.
Each risk identified is given a weight:
1 = Low risk, or the current intervention is mitigating the risk effectively
2 = Moderate risk
3 = High risk
Rtotal is the total weighted score for all risks identified on a ward.
I include example risk variables to get you started, but you can add your own to fit your service. I would keep it under 30 identified risks to keep it management-agile and practical to review.
Once risks are scored, interventions can be designed and implemented either for individual risks or across the ward more broadly. You can then compare monthly totals to confirm risk reduction over time, or to detect emerging risks early.
