In 1848 the Dalmellington Iron Co opened the ironworks at Dunaskin near Dalmellington which was operating into the twentieth century, but by 1921 had become obsolete and was closed during a strike.
The furnaces were demolished and in 1928 a brickworks was established on the site but this closed in 1931.
The nearby abandoned locomotives, part of The Scottish Industrial Railway Centre, are believed to have served brickworks and ironworks.
The nearby Doon Valley Railway run steam train excursions which runs past the site.
