The Wellington Tramway Museum is a delightful little place on the Kapiti Coast, around 40 kilometres from the city of Wellington; New Zealand's capital. The city's tram network was closed in 1964 (having first opened in 1878), and the museum opened one year later in 1965.
A fleet of historic trams - including Fiducia No. 239 - run over a two-kilometre route from Queen Elizabeth Park to Whangaehu Beach, passing a US Marines memorial on the way. Incidentally the museum is right next to McKay's Crossing on the North Island Main Trunk railway, so when you're there you can see the trams as well as Matangi electric units and KiwiRail freight trains.
