This video Introduces the idea of cutting balsa wood strips using an “Improved Crocket Copy Cutter” designed for Aeromodellers. It then proceeds to instruct users in the proper steps needed to set up this device to precisely cut strips of balsa wood sheets up to 36’’ long and thicknesses in the range of 3/8’’ to as little as 1/32’’. There is no limit to the width of the balsa sheet you cut from—it can be 3’’, 4’’ or more.
The beauty of this tool is that once it is set up to the modeler's choice for the width of cut, exact multiple cuts can be accomplished in less time, and most importantly—all turn out to be the same precise width. This is crucial. For instance, when cutting longerons for a fuselage—cutting side-by-side strips from the same piece of balsa and having them the same width insures that they should be very close in strength, which any Aeromodeller will tell you is very important indeed. :)
