Two climbers have shattered a 21-year record by scaling the iconic North Faces of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau in Switzerland’s Bernese Alps in just 15 hours 30 minutes—nearly 10 hours faster than the previous mark. The treacherous climbs, known for their deadly drops and icy conditions, were completed in a single push despite a critical equipment mishap (a forgotten rope sling). One climber described the Eiger’s 1,800-metre face as "terrain where you can die if you slip." Their success followed multiple failed attempts due to brutal weather and one climber’s near-fatal sepsis recovery. After summiting all three peaks—a feat that typically takes amateurs days—they called the achievement "surreal." The duo dedicated their victory to the late mentor whose record they broke.
Al Jazeera’s Camille Nedelec reports.
