Our best performances in the 2001 season came towards the end of the year when we had a great run in the Young Shield, knocking out league winners Newcastle. We met Ian Thomas’s Workington side in the semi-final and expected it to be a close tie with Carl Stonehewer and Peter I Karlsson in the opposition. In the first leg on 19th October we had James Grieves guesting for the injured Jan Andersen, and turned in one of our best displays of the entire Armadale era.
