13 Seeburg SHP1 Amplifier in this STD3 Sunstar Jukebox

The original Seeburg Sunstar SHP3 Amplifier has been swapped out for an early SHP1 Code A Amplifier. I provide a visual overview of the amp then install it. More importantly I check the SHP1 Amp with a Dim Bulb Tester (DBT).

Not an electrical genius but people much smarter than me say that it is critical to test with a DBT aka light bulb limiter aka poor mans variac. Google to learn more about it.

The Seeburg SHP 1 2 3 Amps were designed with transistors, capacitors and resistors wired in a way that when one part fails then parts downstream fail also. There are 4 specific connections on a SHP 1 Code A Amp that IF a connection gets loose (vibration from a jukebox) then it causes a failure. The Seeburg manual doesn't explain how to fix the SHP amp. Two good sources are: 1 Tony Millers SHP Amp Troubleshooting Book and 2. a free pdf download from flippersdotcom called hudsonbayseeburgamps.

So as these videos show - this SHP1 amp still works and sounds good with 40 year lytic capacitors. I don't trust this amp to work for long. I need to check those 4 wire connections, check the critical resistors and replace the old electrolytic capacitors (recap the amp). Then adjust the bias.
