Laundy Hotels spokesperson Craig Laundy says Sydney would be the “laughingstock of the world” if New Year’s Eve fireworks were cancelled due to the Rail, Tram and Bus Union’s threats of strike action.
Sydney businesses are increasingly fed up with the latest round of industrial action from the Rail, Tram and Bus Union and have launched a legal bid to stop it.
“We would literally be the laughingstock of the world,” Mr Laundy told Sky News Australia.
“We lead every major newscast on New Year’s Day with the fireworks over the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
“If they weren’t to go on, and the Police Commissioner is absolutely well within her rights to say if we can’t get the people out of Sydney post-closing, nothing good is going to happen.
“We need the public transport system.”
