🧵 This wasn’t just political. It was theological.
And if we want to protect what’s left of democracy, we have to start there.
Vance Boelter didn’t just act out of partisanship — he acted out of belief.
A belief shaped by bad theology:
➤ That salvation means being right
➤ That violence can be obedience
➤ That those who disagree are enemies of God
This isn’t new. Augustine misread Scripture and gave us:
📖 Romans 5:12 → we sinned in Adam
📖 Luke 14:23 → compel heretics into truth
📖 Psalm 51:5 → we’re born depraved
That theology justified persecution then. It fuels political violence now.
If we dismiss Boelter as “just political,” we ignore the deeper fire.
🔥 We need to name this theology.
🔥 We need to reject it.
🔥 And we need to build a future — across faiths, communities, and differences — where truth doesn’t need terror to stand.
This moment is a test.
Not just of politics — but of faith, courage, and what kind of society we want to be.
