First thing I need to get straight - landscape fabric does NOT prevent weeds, even though every box store markets it as "weed mat." This stuff was designed as soil separation fabric to keep your rock from sinking into the sand below, not to stop weeds. The real issue is that weed seeds germinate in that top half-inch of mulch, and landscape fabric isn't doing anything up there. Next, I'm sharing what actually works - going on the offense with pre-emergent herbicides like that big yellow jug of Preen you see at the store. When you apply this correctly and water it in, it creates a chemical barrier in that top layer that stops new weed seeds from germinating. Way more effective than any fabric. Finally, I'm walking you through our professional maintenance system that keeps beds completely weed-free year-round. This includes our regular spot spraying schedule - honestly, we're spraying every time we mow because we want to hit weeds when they're tiny, not after they've taken over. I'll also explain when you need to hand-pull weeds that are too close to your good plants. The key is staying consistent, especially here in Florida's warm climate where weeds never take a break.
