Chuniri, Tschuniri, ჭუნირი / traditional georgian fiddle

The Chuniri is a rare fiddle from Georgia. It's a spikefiddle that's mainly used to accompany singing. The instrument is special for the regions of Svaneti and Racha where it is played together with the smal harp Changi.

The construction is made of a wooden barrel covered with skin. A wooden spike goes through the barrel and becomes the neck of the instrument. The three strings can be made of horsehair, metal, silk or nylon.
