Milot is a historic commune in northern Haiti, located about 12 miles south of Cap-Haïtien. This town is home to Sans-Souci Palace, one of Haiti’s most respected historical sites, and just a few miles away stands the legendary Citadelle Laferrière, the most iconic monument in the country.

Milot also plays an important role in daily life today, hosting Hôpital Sacré Coeur, a major hospital operated by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Crudem Foundation, serving thousands of people in the region.

The roots of Milot go back to the late 18th century. First documented in 1786 as a small plantation area, the town later became a strategic center during the Haitian Revolution. From 1802 to 1804, Henri Christophe used Milot as the base of his military operations. After Haiti’s independence, the town continued to grow, becoming a small but significant community by 1806.
