Toe-tso Yuldrug comprises six villages in southwestern Tibet, bordering Ladakh to the north and Himachal to the south. What is unique about these villages is that they remain cut off from Tibet for more than six months in the winter due to heavy snowfall, resulting in the evolution of a distinct culture. Although the villages practice a kind of semi-nomadic lifestyle, the main livelihood of these communities is farming. People in these villages are fond of singing and dancing. It is said that there used to be a singing competition held between the six villages before China took control of Tibet. The six villages are Barkyok, Kharag, Tsurub, Sumkhil, Gue, and Khyurig.
