In this STAR-CCM+ tutorial, we demonstrate how to model conjugate heat transfer (CHT) between a solid and a gas.
The video covers the complete workflow, from region definition and interface creation to physics setup and post-processing of temperature and heat flux.
This tutorial is ideal for anyone learning thermal CFD simulations in STAR-CCM+, especially applications involving solid–fluid heat exchange.

In this part of the exercise, we’re going to set up some **post-processing tools**, specifically **Thresholds**, so that once the solution is finished, we can look at the results with **high quality and good accuracy**.
What I want to do is go into the *Derived Parts* and create a **Threshold**. Based on that Threshold, we’ll tell STAR-CCM+ to **only display certain cells**, for example, cells in a specific region of the geometry.
When I click on *Threshold**, the **Properties* panel opens and shows the settings related to this Threshold.
The first thing it asks is:
“On which parts do you want to apply this Threshold?”
Here, I keep both the *Gas* and *Manifold* parts selected, because I want the Threshold to be applied to both of them.
The next question is:
“Which scalar do you want to use for the Threshold?”
In other words:
“Based on which scalar field do you want to select your cells?”
The scalar I want to use is the **Position**.
When you expand **Position**, you can either select:
*Magnitude of Position* (the overall coordinate magnitude), or
One of the individual components: **X**, **Y**, or **Z**.
In this example, for the first Threshold, I’m going to use the **Z component**.
So I select *Position → Z* and click **OK**.
