From snowy peaks to sandy coasts, landforms shape how people live, travel, and build communities. In this Grade 7 geography lesson, students explore major landforms—mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys, hills, islands, and coastlines—and see how each one looks, feels, and functions in the real world.
Through vivid examples from Canada and beyond, students learn how landforms influence climate, vegetation, settlement, and activity. They’ll think like geographers: What makes each landform unique? How do people adapt to it—and how does it shape culture and economy?
Then, students create three illustrated postcards—each featuring a different landform. On the front: a detailed scene. On the back: a short “greeting from” message that describes the look, feel, and significance of that landform.
