Following up on the previous two videos with the simplest and earliest steam whistle style used on railroads. Some people may refer to these as chimes, as I had mistakenly done in the past. Chime refers to a melody of sounds together, and since these whistles only play one note or pitch, it's redundant to refer to these whistles as such. Sometimes single notes are also called hooters, banshees, and teacups, depending on their sound. Famous examples of single notes consist of Norfolk & Western Hooters, Chesapeake & Ohio Hooters, Pennsylvania Banshees, Reading Hooters, along with Lunkenheimer and Crosby, which also manufactured single notes.
